Stipend and Financial Aid:
Each student will receive a one-time $2,250 Americorp
award for participation in the program.
The University has a Financial Aid office to assist
students with financial aid (loans and scholarships).
Students in the program are eligible for loans from
the Guaranteed Student Loan Program. Students are also
eligible for Department graduate assistantships and
College scholarships which are awarded on a competitive
basis.
Insurance requirements:
Students are required to purchase health insurance (or
provide evidence of existing coverage) and professional
liability insurance. Students are covered by workman's
compensation as authorized volunteers of the University
while at assigned sites but not while traveling to and
from assigned sites. It is suggested that students comprehensive
automobile insurance coverage since Workman's Compensation
does not cover the student for accidents which occur
during the commute to and from the supervised practice
site.
Credit for prior learning:
Credit for prior learning (didactic only) will be given
t o students who complete an accredited (approved) DPD
program. This credit will be limited to Food Service
Management, Purchasing and Food Selection and Preparation.
